CubeClimbers is a 20-30 minute strategy game for 2-4 players where the objective is to become king of the hill by stacking cubes, pushing opponents, tossing grappling hooks, and using superpowers. The cubes in this game magnetically snap together for a modular and sturdy 3D board. Although the rules are simple, climbing to the top requires creativity, tactics, precision, diplomacy, and risk-taking.

Setup: Players start on a base of prearranged cubes. Each player is then dealt an even and equal number of the remaining cubes. Players are also dealt a combination of 2 unique player powers face down that can each be used once a game.

Play: During their turn, players build 2 cubes, move to an adjacent space, and roll. Rolling gives players a chance to reposition with the grappling hook (1/2 chance) or push all players in a direction of their choice with wind (1/6 chance). Players must perform all three actions once in any order to end their turn and may also use their powers as optional actions. The game keeps going until the player who builds the last remaining cube ends their turn.

Winning: The player at the highest level of the board when the game ends wins!

Features:

  • 2-4 players, 20-30 minutes per game
  • Play on a dynamic 3D mountain made of magnetic building blocks
  • Move and build tactically to climb and block your opponents
  • Use superpowers for game-changing turns! Over 100 asymmetric player power combinations
  • Amazing table presence— each game ends with a unique sculpture
  • 3 Simple rules (move, build, and roll) with endless depth and strategy
  • The player at the highest level once all cubes are built wins!

CubeClimbers is a perfect fit for those who enjoy board games like Backgammon, Chess, Santorini, Torres, Rhino Hero, or games with unique components.

  • 16 Power Cards

Took WAY TOO LONG to received

The game is actually really simple a fun. The rules are easy to follow, cube build are great and make the game evolve as long as you play. The low rating are from angry customer who don't understand that kickstarter is a risk to take. We actually received the game. And it's fun to play. That's it!

    Backed on Kickstarter back in

Backed on Kickstarter in Fall of 2021 and finally received the game at the end of March in 2025. I'm amazed that this wasn't actually a scam or a failed project. The communication was abysmal on this project. Updates were generally 4 - 6 months apart and were not very detailed or reassuring. I would be a lot more understanding and positive about this product if there weren't so many prolonged periods of radio silence. 2021-2025 was a nightmare for production and shipping; I get it. However, that doesn't excuse the lack of communication and regular updates. I can't recommend doing business with DesignNest. As for the game itself. The components, particularly the climbers, stands, and cards, feel really cheap. Due to costs and design issues the climbers and stands were changed from a transparent resin/plastic material to a rubbery eraser-like material. The box wasn't shrink-wrapped when I received it, but fortunately none of the components were missing. There's some fun to be had with the gameplay, but it feels a bit under-baked. I think with some experimentation there could be a lot of fun to be had with some house rules. Credit where it's due: The magnet cubes are great. It looks cool on the table and all the components pack away neatly inside the box. 0/5 Star experience with the company due to poor communication and the incredibly long time between backing and receiving the game. 5/10 for the game itself.

    Finally Came! Fairly Fun!!

This game would periodically pop into my mind over the last 2 - 2 & 1/2 years. I thought I had fallen for a classic scam, and thought about rewatching the trailer and 3D Printing my own version because of how fun it looked. But after all this time I received a confirmation to ship email, and a few weeks later it finally came!!! I’ve played a few times now with 1 other and the game plays pretty well. It’s a decent chunk of fun but I find 2 things slightly lacking. 1: The magnets aren’t all that strong & neither are the cube climbers bond to their platform. I find they fall off on occasion. The magnets isn’t that big of an issue, just something I thought would be a bit stronger. 2: There’s too few power cards. It leaves a bit to be desired. Wish there were a couple more for variety and a couple of duplicates thrown into the mix. A few cards are also typed out weird and are a little vague. Leaves it open to interpretation. Overall I’d rate is 3.5 - 4 stars. I don’t think it’s worth the $57 or so they’re asking for. I’d say it’s value is closer to $35 - $40; so fairly close. If you’re the type who would home brew/add their own cards to the game and adjust/add to the rules then you can absolutely make this game a 5 star game. Great concept, lots to work with/build on. But upfront a smidge lacking for a game that took over 2 years to make/ship. Do with this review what you will! Hope it helps!

    UPDATE

First pre ordered way back in 2021. After about a year and half radio silence form the developer. Was upset because I paid 65$ for my order way back when they first announced. They didn’t respond to my email for a refund. Left a 1 star review thinking I got scammed. I just received my order March, 7 2025 so around 4 years after ordering. I am glad honestly to receive it. The art style is beautiful. The gameplay is fun and I am excited to show my friends. I’m giving a 4/5 star not because of how long it took and radio silence. BUT BECAUSE WHEN I RECEIVED MY GAME THE DICE WAS SUPER SCUFFED and used, and my box was damaged :( can’t add picture or dice as it’s hard to capture. The block pieces are also more clear and plastic than the ones that looked 3D printed in the picture above.

    Really fun

I ordered this 2 years ago, and I genuinely forgot about it until designnest emailed me about shipping it 1 month ago (January 2025) fast forward to today, (February 2025) I have forgotten it again. Out of seemingly nowhere, (partially because I don't really pay attention to my emails) I get an email, saying that it's been delivered. At this point, it just seems like a present from past me to future me. Mind you I also thought it was a scam at one point, and I genuinely didn't think anything would come from this and that I was scammed. But we opened it and played it, all the parts are there and they are fine and in working condition so, yay for that. Thanks again for the present past me. It's really fun.
